Hi I have started taking lessons and I find I get confused at large roundabouts and I also get scared about joining duel carriageways . I suffer from anxiety and some times I can be relaxed but other times I am a bag of nerves and cant think strait or drive properly What can I do to help me stay calm and over come my fears?

It all comes down to practice. You will eventually learn not to be nervous with more driving lessons.

Hi Jay,

You're not going to be as crazy as 17 year olds and feel absolutely find chucking a tonne of metal around a round about. Teenagers are blessed with no-fear.

Its normal to feel anxiety, I feel it still as I learn. I'm 24 and I've had numerous driving lessons so I know what you mean. Entering the dual carriageway is a bit mad as you have to keep going and join the traffic rather than on a regular road where you slow right down and check for traffic.

Roundabouts which are small are easy, they make sense and feel natural to go around. On the other hand, big ones where you can't see the traffic on the far side, or that have three lanes or a cork screw system are horrible to drive on. The answer above is right, you will get used to it in time, and you will notice that other people are nervous too. Some drivers are bullish and approach the roundabouts dangerously and other drivers are nervous and can sometimes cause danger by slowing down when going for the exit. Everyone has their qwirks and a time will come when you don't even think about roundabouts as dodgy but you'll notice some other drivers still do.
