Is it actually worth taking pass plus?

How will it actually affect my insurance and how much will it cost?

I am tempted to go for it, but i don't know if the benefits outwiegh the costs?

Cheers,
Scott

I think it usually takes about 6 hours of training. It's worth it if you feel you would be more confident on the road with extra training, also you will get cheaper insurance but im not sure how much cheaper, it might be worth ringing some insurance companies to see what kind of prices they quote with and without pass plus.

yes it is worth taking pass plus. 5 years ago I passed my test. It cost me £45 for 5 hours lessons (2 2hr lessons and 1 1hr lesson). First lesson I drove around town down to Chesterfield on Dronfield by pass and back home up M1. Second lesson it was exclusively on the motorway. Practising getting on, getting off, overtaking lorries etc. I went on the M1, M62 and M18 loop. And the third was driving at night. It's worth it to get your confidence on the motorway. I received 1 years NCB FOC, worth around £200 I believe. Well worth it!!!

It'sdefinitely worth it - but don't expect it to cost - £45 - that instructor must've been a charity! Expect to pay £100 - £160, but you're pretty sure to save far more than that. If you're in London you can get a discount through Transport for London (about £60 off). Other local authorities do similar schemes.

My friend did Pass Plus and said the stuff he learnt was quite useful, some of it he did in his lessons but the motorway driving was particularly good.

Your driving instructor will probably encourage you to spend more money of course but i wouldnt do it as you can practise that stuff on your own. Most insurance companies dont even ask for pass plus cause they dont take any money off. overall i wouldnt as i would just ask a family member to come with me on a motorway.

waste of money.

Don't know what you base that on!
"Most insurance companies..." have you asked "most insurance companies"?
Some local authorities subsidise the whole cost.

Found it very useful personally, even though we had covered some things in lessons the environment was very different and I didn't feel so much like a learner when faced with new situations afterwards.I'd say it was well worth it - even though i went on the motorway with my dad before I took the motorway lesson,i probably wouldn't have been on there without it. It can be a great confidence booster just after passing your test (: its personal choice i suppose. Smile

If you drive on the motorway you will see how many people don't know how to change lanes, join the motorway, know the speed limit or know the correct following distance.

Pass Plus or motorway lessons with an instructor would make our motorways much safer.

Learning from someone who doesn't know the rules themselves could put us all at risk and I think that's why driving on the motorway is becoming dangerous these days, because new drivers think the instructor is ripping them off they are reluctant to have the extra lessons (false economy).

Personally I think motorway driving should be part of the test or a separate part at a later date.

To complete pass plus you have to do the six modules then the instructor signs you off if you have reached the required level, which more often than not you will.

The Pass Plus course is a training course that has been specifically designed by the DSA (Driving Standards Agency) for new drivers in England and throughout the UK. Its aim is to give new drivers extra confidence on the roads after passing their driving test and it carries a number of benefits.

Not only will it make you a more confident driver, capable of dealing with all kinds of modern hazards such as busy motorways and city centre one-way systems, it may also give you a significant discount on your motor insurance. And in current credit-crunch times, this is an added incentive to many new drivers to take advanced driving tuition.

In the UK it is still illegal for those who have not yet passed their test to drive on motorways. This means that many people who have newly passed their test find their first motorway experience rather intimidating. That's why The Pass Plus offers students the opportunity to have a motorway lesson after they have passed their test. In this way, students can learn how to enter and exit busy motorways with confidence, how to change lanes, and about the kinds of hazards that they should look out for.

No matter where you have taken your original driving lessons - whether in suburbs city centres, the Pass Plus will teach you how to deal with a wide range of different roads and traffic.

The course does not require you to take a test at the end, but will assess your progress throughout. It is divided into six practical modules:

o driving in town
o driving in all weathers
o driving on rural roads
o driving at night
o driving on dual carriageways
o driving on motorways

Yes it is and it helps you to qualify for up to 30% discount on your first year's insurance.

You can take a Pass Plus course at any time, but it’s mainly aimed at new drivers in the first year after passing their test.

Hope this will helps you

It is really worth.

The main aim of this scheme is to gain a valuable knowledge to the drivers who are fresher, learn new skills and techniques, improve anticipation and alertness, learn and also assist to build up existing skills. Pass Plus gives you an additional experience and reduces your car insurance premium/discount.

The main purpose of the Pass Plus course is :

• To have a precise driving knowledge safe and sound.
• Get trained how to deal with a broad range of road and traffic situations, many of which you almost won't have come across before.
• Upgrade on your existing skills and knowledge - it can take years to become a skilled driver. Instate Pass Plus helps you to get this by speeding up the learning procedure under the guidance of a professional instruction.
• Diminish your danger of being in a road crash - the training will help you to improve your consciousness and alertness on all kinds of hazards and help you in learning how to become an expert, sketch the hurdles and deal with them carefully.
• Pass Plus training also helps in boosting up your confidence whenever you feel nervous while driving on your own
